And yeah, in more recent years, I still have this, when watching TV or music videos, that I then find someone super pretty and just enjoy watching them. Their faces, their facial expressions.

What are the basic human needs according to psychology? What are the consequences of not meeting these needs?

So, this one developed into a really big post, way too much. But I felt like writing this down. If not for anyone else, it’s interesting for me to reflect on this.

And they are both just lovely and funny (and very pretty). Gotta love both of them.

She was really a teenage crush. I had the films on VHS. And I saw as many other films with her as I could. All secretly, I did not want my sisters or anyone else to notice ;-) Would have been uncool, I thought. So no posters or stuff. Interestingly, my first real life big big crush (for 4 years, without trying anything) looked very similar.

But I have also always found her really really pretty. And, yes, sexy. During my college year in the US, I had a huge promo poster of her on my door (“Stories from the City…”).

First of all, for me, per definition, “celebrity crush” means a person I find to be very attractive and I can’t stop watching because I find them very beautiful. I don’t mean an obsession. I never had that. Even as a teenager, I could only have that in real life. A real crush. Permanently thinking about someone. Celebrities were never “real” for me in that sense. And hey, as you will see, there are a lot that have fascinated me, more or less (whereas in real life, it hasn’t been very many). P.S. An interesting thing. In real life, superficially, it’s faces for me. Eyes. And faces. Although I don’t believe that eyes is a superficial thing, actually.

And, about a year ago, I saw an old Woody Allen film and saw Shelley Duvall for the first time. And I was amazed. How crazy beautiful that woman was. Her big eyes, the eyelid space (interesting thing to notice as attractive), her paleness (yes, one can like paleness!). Her vulnerable expression and in the next moment that glow, that spark.

I do find this topic interesting, browsing through others’ posts. It really shows one thing: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. There is no general standard, really. It’s individual. And that’s quite nice, isn’t it?

Carrie Brownstein. Same here, I admire her to this day for who she is and what she does. And will always do. And also: My God is she pretty. I’ll always have a celebrity crush on her.

But there’s another aspect, I can also find someone physically attractive. In that respect, among other, I have a thing for plus-size women. And when thinking about it: How many famous actresses would classify as plus size? I cannot think of any right now. I am sure I would have had a crush on a plus-size actress. But there do not seem to be any. At least not a lot, for sure. Which is a bit unfair, I have to say. A bit discriminating. TV and films should show more plus size women.

With my definition of celebrity crushes, I actually keep having small celebrity crushes even at 46. It’s more that I admire someone when I see them. I wouldn’t do what I did as a teenager, then watch entire films just to admire someone. I’m a bit too old for that.
